– Natascha Borowsky & Minstrel Kuik Ching Chieh

Date  :13th Sep ‘08 (Saturday)

Time :8 pm

German artist Natascha Borowsky and malaysian artist Minstrel Kuik Ching Chieh will each introduce their work. Though both artists work with a camera, their approach and ideas lead to quite a dierent body of images. Subsequently the artists will talk about their previous experiences with artist residencies in France and Germany, discuss the benets/problems and share information on places to go.

Natascha Borowsky born in Germany, is currently working as artist-in-residence at Lost Generation Space on invitation of the Goethe Institute. She studied with Bernd and Hilla Becher at theAcademy of Arts, Düsseldorf, Germany, graduating as master student. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries in Germany and abroad.

Since 2006, she has been teaching at the University of Krefeld, Germany. The approach to her work being a conceptual one, the artist is engaged in an ongoing project, using found objects and material and an analogue largeformat camera.

Minstrel Kuik Ching Chieh Born Malaysian, has a bachelor degree in painting from the National Taiwan Normal University in Taiwan. Later, she graduated from The Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie of Arles and from The Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Versailles, France. As a jet-lagged artist and photographer, she experiments with the syndrome of desynchronosis of her epoch. By using herself as the bridge of the in-betweens, she goes into the external conicts between day and night, here and there, self and otherness, sex and gender, individual and nation… Recently, being and time.

gettin’ down and dirty…    gettin’ down and dirty…  gettin’ down and dirty…  Bangun - Abandon Project       i’ve been working hard over at the house, shoveling lots of mud and dirt, pulling off termite infected wood, getting massacred by mozzies… not the usual neat, contained, glamourous style of art making i subscribe to! anyway, it’s a great to have a challenge, especially when you’re away from home.   x  hayley    —————————–

On Saturday 5th January Tobias Richardson (who is the current artist-in-residence at Petronas Gallery) and i gave a talk on our practices, our involvement with DVAA (an artist run space in Darwin, Australia) and our views on the art scene in Darwin. We had over 20 people attend which was fantastic, sharing information for over 2 hours… alas i had no voice left at the end! thanks everyone for coming, it was a great night.

—————————————————————————————–
